INTERESTING GEOLOGIC HISTORY OF THE FAMOUS FORMATION!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 496-A,
Geology of Green River Formation and Associated Eocene Rocks in Southwestern, Wyoming and Adjacent Parts of Colorado and Utah.
Published in 1964, this 86-page report comes with all three original maps that come in a pocket in the back of the book. This book discusses the history of the Eocene Green River formation including the formation and disappearance of ancient Lake Gosiute. The Eocene was a time of tectonic and volcanic activity in the west and those events are recorded in the rocks of the formation. Some of the interesting features of this formation are the beds of fossil fish and the large Trona deposits the formed when the lake evaporated. There are also oil shales and other interesting rocks as well.
This book covers a large area in southern Wyoming and parts of northern Utah and Colorado. It has some interesting photos within. One of the maps is full color, the others are two-color, green and black. One is over four feet wide! An great book that takes a close look at this interesting formation. A cool old book with an interesting story.
