Here is a very useful, fairly recent, auction guide for fine jewellery, this one from the Heritage auction house, in 2016. These types of guides are hard to find on the market, as they are produced in limited edition "glossy's", designed for those who will attend the auction. However, as collector's items, many will take on a second life. As time documents, and price indicators, these types of guides are invaluable in order to assess what is out there on the top segment of the market, or simply to view the scope of jewelery as it presents on the market at a certain time. This guide was sold for $50 when it came out. I believe these types of guides retain their value over time, due to the factors I mentioned.

RARE ITEM!!
It's a
treasure trove for mineral collectors!!
Here is a scarce one. This
is USGS Professional Paper 247,
Pegmatite Investigations 1942-1945, Black
Hills, South Dakota
. I have only ever had
a couple to sell in 20 years of this business.
This consists of the 228 page
book and
every single one of the 45 original maps
that came with it! It details
over 150 mines, whose locations are shown on the index map (photo #2). Almost
all the rest of the maps are of individual mines, several of which are shown
above (photos 5-8).
There is also a large fold out table in the text
providing details about the pegmatites.
The study focuses on several commodities that were of
significant importance during WW2, among which are mica, beryl, lithium,
tantalum, tin, and feldspar. This area is rich in mineral collecting sites and
this report would make an incredible guide to them. Between this report and
resources like Google Earth and Mindat you will be well-prepared to score some
amazing minerals in this area.
Here's a testimony about this from someone that bought one a few years ago:
"Remember that big book with maps of South Dakota? I put them to use and was it an eye opener! We found things we didn't know existed! So glad I bought that!
Thanks!" -

The

2. Index
map to locations.
3-4. Two
of the typical maps inside the book.
5. The
stack of maps from the back pocket.
6-9.
Some of the detailed maps of individual mines.
10. The
back cover.
This is
one of the scarcer USGS publications, and while it has some condition
issues, it is nonetheless very readable, and absolutely complete. You will have
hours of enjoyment looking through all thi
s, and will be able to prepare for
some great collecting, with information hardly anyone else has.
It is
nearly three
pounds of good reading and fun! However, I strongly recommend removing the maps from the pocket while reading the text to reduce strain on the back cover.
