This is USGS Bulletin 1121-G, “
Geology of the American Falls Quadrangle, Idaho
.” Published in 1963, this is a pretty scarce
item. This 44-page book comes complete with all three maps, two of
which
are FULL COLOR GEOLOGIC
MAPS! This is a great old publication
that details the geology of this interesting area. The 15-minute color map in this publication really makes the
geology stand out, and the other maps are really helpful as well.
The geology is diverse, with formations from Silurian through Tertiary age, with a wide range of formations including igneous and sedimentary rocks. Much of the area is covered with Tertiary rhyolites and basalts, as well as younger basalts. The American Falls Reservoir is on the map, as well as Aberdeen, Idaho and the Snake River below the dam. The structure is complex with folding and faulting, and the cross sections on the map help make it all clear, even though much of the older geology is visible only in a few small windows through the younger rocks.

RARE OLD REPORT WITH ORIGINAL COLOR MAP!! ONLY ONE I HAVE!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 165-D,
Geology of the Big Snowy Mountains, Montana
. Published in 1931, this 15-page book is a great report on this beautiful area. It comes complete with the two foldout maps and the foldout panel of photos. The full color map is a pretty good size, measuring 30x16 inches, and it is in great condition. It has a classic old styling that would look great framed and hung in a home or business in the area. The other map is B&W but covers an enormous region surrounding the Big Snowy Mountains clear down to Billings and the Yellowstone river, and north to the Missouri river.
This is a scarce and interesting report on this area, and really is one of the first detailed looks at the geology of the range.

The maps are in excellent condition, but each has a couple library stamps and minor writing. The text has light corner bumping and very light general wear, and the pages are clean and unmarked.
