This is USGS Bulletin 940-H, “
Manganese Deposits of the Flat Top and Round Mountain Districts, Bland and Giles Counties, Virginia
.” Published in 1943, there can't be many of these around. The publication consists of a 27-page book and ALL FIVE OF THE ORIGINAL GEOLOGIC MAPS, which are all in a pocket in the back of the book. This area offers such minerals as psilomelane, manganite, and pyrolusite. Among the deposits described in this publication are:
Suiter mines
Round Mountain mine
Fire Tower prospect
Bastian prospect
Shott prospect
Donahue prospect
Nye Cove prospect
Stange and Arms mines
Dismal Creek mine
Silver Creek mine
Morris prospect
Wyrick prospect
Johnson prospect
And others!
A little research on Mindat.org showed that wavellite is also known from Flat Top mountain. Who knows what other minerals have been overlooked in these mines! Sounds like an interesting area!
This is a scarce publication on an important and productive historic mining district, and this report ust might lead you to some cool minerals!

Here is an older book on opals, from Wilfred Eyles in 1964 but still considered a standard work. Given the age of this book, this book is in excellent condition, and should be part of any library on opals. As photo's show, this book is in good condition.
Please be advised, I ship with Priority shipping, padded envelope.
